Frequently Asked Questions

How do I scan a film negative?

Place your negative on a light source (a lightbox, tablet screen, or window works well). Open FilmFlip, point your camera at the negative, and the app will invert it in real-time. Tap the shutter button to capture, or enable Auto-Capture to trigger automatically when the frame is steady.

Which film types does FilmFlip support?

FilmFlip supports C-41 color negatives, black & white negatives, and E-6 slide film. You can select the film mode manually, or let the app detect it automatically. Each mode is tuned for accurate color reproduction.

How do I get the best scan quality?

Use a diffuse, even light source behind the negative — a dedicated lightbox gives the best results. Keep the negative flat and clean. In dim surroundings, tap to focus before capturing. After scanning, use the editor to fine-tune density, contrast, and color temperature.

What is the Pro-Grade Editor?

After capturing a scan you can open it in the editor to adjust density, contrast, shadows and highlights, color temperature, vibrance, sharpness, and more. You can also apply film effects like glow, halation, and dust removal, or correct perspective with the corner handles.

How do I fix a skewed or cropped scan?

Open the photo in the editor and tap the Perspective tool. Drag the four corner handles to align with the edges of your film frame. FilmFlip will straighten and crop the image accordingly.

Where are my scans saved?

Every scan is saved directly to your device's camera roll. Edits are written back onto the original photo — no duplicate copies are created. All images stay on your device; FilmFlip never uploads your photos.

How do I organize my scans into rolls?

In the Gallery tab, tap the folder icon to create a new roll. Give it a name, set the date, and add notes if you like. You can move scans between rolls at any time by long-pressing a photo.
